Simple Living

I had a really awesome time in Fonfria for 10 days! Fonfria is a small village with approximately 200 residents located a Spanish municipality in the province of Zamora, Castile and León. Here it's always hot and very dry but at night it cools down dramatically. Most of the buildings here are made out of stone and it stays cool and comfortable in them. There was a lack of modernization there for sure as I had very little internet connection throughout my stay so I apologize for the absence of my blog posts. Made lots of friends this past week and it breaks my heart to say goodbye(or adios). To get to Fonfria I had to take a metro to a bus to a small plane to a taxi to another bus and then a friend of a Victor's dad gave us a lift to Fonfria. Talk about a day of traveling!Fun fact: Zamora has more churches than any other city in Spain(not sure how many). We also took some tapas! Fonfria was quaint to say the least! The house where I lived(Victor's dad's): One of the village parties: Day of Comarca We also visited a pretty town in Portugal called Miranda Do Douro. It was only a 30 minute ride by car to get to Portugal. I found the countryside to be very traditional and it was like traveling back in time. Most of the men and women in the countryside were in traditional clothing and there were plenty of cows, goats, sheep, and donkeys herded across the streets in Portugal. We also visited an art gallery that had beautiful art depicting life in the country side. Jose( Victor's father) enjoyed the art immensely because it reminded him of his childhood in Fonfria. I also stood on the border of Portugal and Spain. Wow, how the border was so heavily protected(not! thanks to the European Union, no passport was necessary.
